I have just finished reading "Beautiful Things Happen When A Woman Trusts God" by Sheila Walsh. The title of the book sums it up wonderfully. Sheila seemlessly weaves her personal account of her struggle with depression with 10 examples of people in the Bible to show the reader that trusting God is the only way to make it through this difficult journey of life. We learn that we can try to hide from God but He's in control no matter what. All we have to do is listen to God as He whispers, "Trust me."
Before reading this book, I had no idea who Sheila Walsh was or her story. It was the title that intrigued me. And I wasn't disappointed. The book is very easy to read. It was almost like Sheila was there in the room, sharing her stories in person. Each chapter tells the story of a different person in the Bible who fought against God's will for their lives and learned, often the hard way, that God knows best. I often found myself wondering why I don't trust God more. While I didn't have any life changing revelations after reading this book, I was gently reminded that, no matter the circumstance, God is in control and I should listen to His little whisper.
At the end of the book is a Bible study guide for each chapter. Sheila provides some Bible verses and discussion questions to explore that chapter's subject a little deeper. The fact that the book is an easy read plus the Bible study material would make this book a great resource for a ladies' Bible study at your church.
I recommend this book to anyone who needs a gentle reminder to trust God more completely. While the title suggests that it's geared towards women, I think it's an appropriate book for anyone who wonders about trusting God.
